Found the cutest nail set at Urban Outfitters (of all places!) the other day and realized how pervasive the press on nail industry has become.
Do you think we’re losing a sense of community or letting go of a cultural touchstone by stepping away from traditional nail salons?
As much as I enjoy the salon experience, the reality is that I don’t always have the time, energy, or desire to be in that kind of environment. At home, I can move at my own pace, create a calming atmosphere, and focus on what feels good to me without the pressure of being on someone else’s schedule or shuffled between stations.
It’s a lot like the shift from in-store shopping to online retail. Glamnetic press on nail kits are so cute and they offer so many seasonal nail designs that make it easy to bring the experience home. It’s not about rejecting the salon altogether, but about choosing convenience, comfort, and the freedom to manage my time on my own terms.
Totally agree, and I think it’s great that we can still find community in other ways, like here and on social media. I don’t feel disconnected from the people I care about; staying in touch just looks a little different now. That said, I’m definitely still cheering for the mom-and-pop nail salons! They’ll always have a special place in my heart!
