My Winter Musts

Saw the bMod post about changing up your skincare routine in winter, and wanted to share how I keep my skin glowing and moisturized through New York winters no matter what it’s like outside:

When the air gets cold and dry, I like to add moisture back into my environment. A humidifier is honestly my winter skincare cheat code. Running one while I sleep helps prevent dehydrated, crepey skin and keeps everything looking smooth by morning (my sinuses definitely love it too).

I would also rethink retinol this time of year. Winter retinol isn’t for everyone, and if my skin starts feeling dry or looking irritated, I’ll reduce how often I use it or take a break. My barrier needs TLC right now, not constant exfoliation.

And I always switch to a heavier moisturizer and soothing, protective lip balms to fight winter dryness. This is the season for richer, more nutrient rich creams that deeply hydrate the skin (yes, even if you have oily or combination skin). I look for barrier-supporting ingredients like ceramides, squalane, peptides and shea butter. I think of it like giving my skin a puffer jacket: cushy, protective, and essential for preventing dryness.

I need to get a humidifier! The heat in my apartment is so warm and has been drying my skin out for sure
