Don’t forget the décolletage!

Often overlooked is the décolletage, which refers to the area that includes:

  • The neck

  • The upper chest

  • The collarbones

  • Sometimes the upper shoulders

It’s the skin that shows when you wear lower-cut tops or dresses. This area is thin, delicate, and prone to aging, often even more quickly than the face because we tend to neglect it.

So why does it need extra TLC?

  • It has fewer oil glands, so it dries out easily.

  • It shows sun damage faster (sunspots, pigmentation, wrinkles).

  • It’s prone to crepiness and loss of elasticity.

  • It often gets friction from clothing and sleep position (especially side sleeping).

With regular care, it can stay smooth, even-toned, and firm.

How to care for your décolletage:

1. Cleanse gently
Use the same gentle cleanser as your face.

2. Exfoliate 1–2×/week
Choose a mild AHA (glycolic or lactic) or an enzyme exfoliant. Avoid rough scrubs.

3. Apply treatment serums
Use face-friendly actives here too:

  • Vitamin C (brightening)

  • Retinol (texture + firmness — start slow)

  • Hyaluronic acid (hydration)

  • Peptides (firming)

4. Moisturize well
Choose rich creams with ceramides, niacinamide, or shea butter.

5. Daily SPF
Broad-spectrum SPF 50 — this is the most important step.

6. Night care
Use a silk pillowcase and avoid tight side sleeping to reduce chest creases.
