Saw the post on bMod’s ig here and it got me thinking.
Red lip theory makes sense in conceptual form, but my biggest skin challenges are redness and acne. Because of that, and because I gravitate toward barely there foundations (anything heavier tends to melt off and make things look worse), a red lip isn’t always the magic fix for me.
On days when my skin is flaring up, a bold red lip draws more attention to the unevenness and redness in my complexion, which makes me feel even more self conscious.
That said: when my skin is clear and glowing? That’s when I feel unstoppable in a red lip. The concept has additional appeal for someone like me with a pared down routine and likes to be out the door quickly. Also, let’s be real, I love the look of a glossy statement lip but only trust matte formulas not to budge.
Completely understand the appeal of the red lip theory and how swiping on a confident shade can make you feel put together, even on a bad day. For me, though, red lipstick isn’t my go to for skin struggles but is definitely a confidence amplifier when my base feels good. What does everyone think?
- love it, red lip theory is real
- does not help & makes it worse
- love a statement lip only when skin is great
- idk neither
